Handpick a Performance

If you could handpick your own personal supergroup, who would you choose? You can draw from every artist, living or dead, and feature as many people as you would like.

For example, you could have the Tupac and Jay Z fronting your crew, or you could have John Bonham and Bootsy Collins providing the rhythm behind Jimi Hendrix.

Let us know who would be in your all-time performing group on the Broadjam Blog.

Death of the album?

The Death of the Album?

With the increasing popularity of stores such as Broadjam, iTunes and eMusic, which allow fans to purchase single songs, as opposed to albums, some are saying that the idea of the album is disappearing.

Will the album survive or will a greater emphasis be placed on producing a few sellable songs, rather than entire albums?

Write your opinion on this in the Broadjam Blog.

  • Hi All
To Press or not to Press
    That is the question?

Young dudes here in Scotland are pressing directly onto Vinyl LP’s to play on their decks. At the same time I know people who still use pen and paper to score, MP3’s downloaded by the billion none of it will ever die, its all good. Things do change and as artists it’s our duty to both embrace and reject anything that takes our fancy. I have heard on the grapevine that all music will be free (Soon) regardless of how you come by it but you will need an entertainment licence (Annual payment) in order to play music. If you play you pay that is how the future is about to pan out, you cant steal something that is free, and the licensing people will be at your door “Hey your listening to music in there? And our records show you aint purchased a licence”.

    P.S
Gershwin and the likes started music reproduction where music without musicians was possible for the first time. They used piano rolls and hey! Guess what, I saw one on ebay just the other day. Not dead at all. Anyway must dash, working on my new album at the moment.

  • Vinyl LP’s, they were the days, not the quality, but the nice big sleeves and liner notes that you could actualy read.
CD’s never had the same magic about them, they just seem so disposable and boring. Notice I said ‘had’ because they will go, it is inevitable, even more disposable MP3 downloads will be the norm.
Don’t you think it ironic that we are recording now with 24 and 32 BIT and yet most punters are listening on tinny little IPods through tinny little ear phones.

    Mar 28, 2007/4:11 pm
  • How odd, I was just thinking about this exact problem the other day.

With the state of the economy driving prices sky high while unemployment rates continue to grow (at least here in Michigan), A lot of people are looking for ways to save money, even if it means sacrificing quality.
Also with the record industries seemingly pushing for one hit wonders, well as you have already said, there is usually only a few songs that they took the time to produce very well.
Add in the fact that life has become so fast paced with the “online experience”, everyone wants instant gratification. Why go to the store, look for the album, and if they have it, wait in line to buy it? When you can log on, click a button and instantly have it.

I believe these and a few other small factors add up to this whole new “Plague”.

Just to clarify, I do go out and spend the time and money to buy the actual cd, I also prefer 2″ tape recordings, but from what I hear, that is coming to an end REAL SOON.

I seriously believe the only next step is for artists, record companies, and anyone else involved, to find a way to make the online albums as complete as possible, or the whole music scene is going to change.
If you only need one hit to make money, then anyone and everyone could have a song on the radio. This may sound cool to musicians at first, but listen to what’s been pushed commercially lately, and when is the last time you heard a song that you truly believed would become a classic.

Congratulations! You’ve been picked to live on a desert island, Robinson Crusoe style, at the end of which you will receive a fat check for $1,000,000! (If you survive that is…) You can only bring one change of clothing, a few personal items and five albums. A coconut sound system will be provided.

What five albums would you bring? Double discs are allowed, but no box sets! Tell us on the Broadjam Blog.

Selling Out: What is it? Who is it?

Selling out. It may well be the dirtiest phrase in the music business. Artists never want to be labeled it

  • Sabrina i feel ya point and Professor but when you make good music and get called a selll out for trying to unite people knowing it wont happen then is that seeling out trying to make a buck effecting change yet alone just wanting the truth to be revealed about this parasitical system that suckz new comerz dry like cactus or carcasses in the desert for all they got then lead them on to nowhere the deal is you go for what you want may not get it and even your soul has a price tag! Some people just dont know it.

  • I think seeling out is about getting exposure from people who dont care but know about you and at the same time want recognition from people who wont give it yet those who know the real you know you just trying to get your music to the right earz.

  • Wouldn’t popular music be good music though? So, couldn’t making more popular music just be making more cohesive, better songs? I’m sure that most of popularity is place and time, so it doesn’t mean that every unknown artist is making bad music, but isn’t there something to be said for the taste of the masses?

  • I think all of the groups mentioned on this post are good but look at the world today did any of there accomplishments change society to make people learn from there music and take change in the own communities is the question and how come some artist in it for the money hate the system versus those who made money then changed there style. Its really hard to say because there are way to many musicians that have spoke on issuez and made people change but things tunred right back into the same drama after those artist were forgot or maybe people some did not want to change there wayz. When the labels found some other artist to try and outshine or kill artist who had more power than presidents and politicians yet not enough to stop the ills or fix the problems that people still die from day to day. People should learn there history and see how music is powerful and deadly from drugz, and lierz and money it all can lead to death. Make some jealousness enough to want to kill or try to plot for keeping an evil existance in presence so sometimes its bigger than teh artist yet all those artist were good who everyone mentioned in the post.

  • JS Bach is the master. He standardized the basic music structure we use today. Even Mozart and Haydn studied his works to be better composers and then all throughout the eras, composers have always come back to the basic structures and formulas Bach created. Plus he wrote some amazing music - imagine hearing Toccata and Fugue for Organ for the first time in the 17th century. Now that it innovation!

Tips & Tricks: Add graphics to your site

Today in Tips & Tricks, we’re going to show you how to use image code (BBC) on your Broadjam Website. Every Primo MoB member can create a website. You can use this code to add graphics to your website. The BBC [Img] code can be used on the website tile, menu buttons, your news page, custom page and links page.

For examples of these features, check out www.dencity.org. Visit the links, user, news and home pages to see what this can look like.

Here is the information you need to learn how to use image code.

If you have any questions after reading through the material, please post them on the blog. Otherwise, feel free to call the Broadjam Help Desk at 1-608-271-3633.

  • Good day Rick Kennedy,

“Is there an easy way to add a video to the Broadjam website–or to link to the video on Broadjam?”

-Yes. The video upload process is the same as the song upload process.

Login to your Broadjam account and select the edit button beside video, located on the left side of the screen. Then select the “Add New Video” button. Once the video is uploaded it will activate within 0-7 business days. Normally videos activate within 24hrs, depending on how many videos have been uploaded.

To show the video on your website you’ll most likely have to activate the video page. Login to your content editor and select the menu editor. Then select the “Click to show” button next to videos to activate the page. The video page should now be activated on your website.

If you have any specific questions feel welcome to contact us. Our number is 608-271-3633 and we’re open from 11am to 3pm central time, M-F. Thank you
