College Credit Contest & Placements

Our new College Credit – Singer/Songwriter 101 contest is up and running. This time, we’re looking for the best singer/songwriters on Broadjam.

Winning songs from our last College Credit contest were compiled on a CD titled College Credit 101: Indie Rock, which has had great success. Three songs from the disc were placed on television shows (MTV, Oxygen) and the rest made playlists on over 100 radio stations nationwide.

These are just some of the Broadjam artists getting airplay. Have you had any recent placements? Let us know where your music is showing up in the marketplace.

Most embarrassing stage moment

Did you ever get halfway into a song and then realize you had forgotten your own lyrics? Have you ever had a “wardrobe malfunction” on stage? Maybe you just picked the wrong crowd to play to.

Whatever your most embarrassing stage moment is, we’re here to listen! Feel free to share your stories below.

Scene: Southshore High School, Chicago IL
    Year: approx. 1987
    Event: School talent show
    Players: Classified
Intel: Band has rather overweight drummer (approx 300lbs.) that dubs as a lead vocalist

My band opens with a cover song by Keith Sweat called “I Want Her”. A song lead by our drummer. (We used a drum machine when playing songs that featured our drummer as lead vocalist.) Prior to the curtain rise, our drummer donned a policeman’s hat cocked to the side.
He thought he looked really cool. He was wrong! He had also placed a folding chair front center stage as a prop. BTW we were playing to an auditorium filled to capacity. We started the drum machince and began playing. The curtain was raised on cue and the audience went wild with applause and the girl were screaming and swooning as we played the #1 hit at the time. Our drummer skipped and I mean skipped literally, as in Skip To My Lou, from backstage to front and center. He struck a pose and tossed his hat into the crowd. He worked from stage right to left and back to center as we played the intro. Imagine a 300lb. man skipping like a child across the stage. Did I mention that he had big hair dripping with Jheri Curl juice. I had a conk like James Brown and our bass player had a pompador like Prince. I was playing guitar stage left watching the whole thing develop. When our drummer returned to center stage, on cue to start the 1st verse, he sat down on the chair and struck a pose with one leg crossed over the other. To the delight of the audience and the dismay and horror of everyone in my band, the chair was totally crushed under his massive weight. The chair didn’t suffer. Death came swiftly, it didn’t feel a thing. My band on the other was horrified briefly before hysterical laughter consumed us. Our band didn’t as much as hiccup as we played right through the mishap. Our drummer made a fine recovery and we rocked the house! It was maybe the best thing that could’ve happen because we were as loose as a goose afterwards. All the pre-show jitters were gone. Fini.

The story you just read was based on actual facts and only the names were changed to protect the innocent. Duhn dah Duhn Duhn Dah Duhn Duh Duhn…….Fade to black.

So I’m playing a pretty big wedding gig in Illinois, and before the show my guitarist talks me into having a little toke. I’m kind of worried about it because I get paranoid about playing in front of people too high. Plus, a wedding is an event most people tend to remember, and I didn’t want to screw anything up. Nevertheless, I proceeded to get relatively ripped, but I wanted to keep the green on the outs. We took all the necessary precautions. After we dropped some Visine and sprayed a little cologne we were higher than a kite and ready for the show. My paranoia had just about subsided when in the middle of the Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” my guitarist lost his pick. So in a nervous rage he ravaged his pockets and quickly pulled out a pick…only he did it so fast and with such force that our little bag of bud landed right in front of all the wedding guests. Luckily most of the guests didn’t see, but I was just dying. I couldn’t quite get back into the groove until we took a break and the best man asked us if we wanted to go out back.
