UNCLE STEVE
Brief Bio

Born in Northern Ontario in Sault Ste. Marie, Steve has spent most of his adult life active as a performer or staging technician. Steve went on to study both Theatre Tech; and, later Film Studies, at Ryerson University in Toronto. As well as devoting himself to songwriting and producing; Steve has been developing his skills as a filmmaker.

Over the past fifteen years, Derek Stephen McPhail has produced five "Uncle Steve" cd projects, all through his home grown company,
BEER WEAZL PRODUCTIONS.

This June, Uncle Steve's daughter, Zingarro, is expecting a boy with her husband, Nico.

Steve's son Shawn, after working / partying his way through Australia & Thailand for a year; is now saving money to do more traveling with his girl friend, Bronwyn.

Music Bio

Born in Northern Ontario in Sault Ste. Marie, Steve has spent most of his adult life active as a performer or staging technician. Years ago, Steve became involved with an extended family of musicians called "The Uncles"; and so, "Uncle Steve" was born.

Steve has been inspired by the Canadian comedians, "the Mackenzie Brothers" & their jokes about the "Mercans" south of the border & us "Canajuns" in the "Great White North". Though it began as joke, Steve began to see that "Canajun Blues" was a good description of his genre.

Since 1992, Uncle Steve has produced five CD projects, through his ?Beer Weazl Productions? company. Three are rock / blues projects, called: "Labour of Caring", "Story Book Blues" & "Canajun Blues", all songs copyright at SOCAN. The fourth is an acoustic CD of traditional & original sea chanteys, called "Sea Fever". Uncle Steve's most recent CD, was recorded on Salt Spring Island, BC, of Alt Country & Canajun Blues, called, "Hunger of the Heart".
