Clients and History

In 1987, after 12 years of touring and over 3000 concerts as the drummer for TRUTH and the Grammy award winning group, THE IMPERIALS, Tom Reeves left the road to begin a career as a player, engineer and producer in the Nashville recording industry forming the basis for the Westpark Creative Group. After three years in management, Tom purchased the popular Nashville studio, Westpark Sound.

Early on, a relationship with Opryland's Director of Entertainment, David Patton opened up the corporate, theme park, and cruise ship music market for Tom. For Opryland Entertainment, Tom contracted, played on, recorded, & mixed dozens of shows including the Emmy award-winning, Opryland Kid's Club projects.

Through David Patton and Gary Musick Productions, Tom and the Westpark team have been directly involved in numerous shows for Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruises, Dollywood Theme Park, music packages for the CBS Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, Nashville's Music City Bowl, and new shows with Las Vegas based, Sam's Town Casinos.

For over 20 years, numerous corporate industrials and jingle projects have come through the Westpark Creative Group hands. Gary Musick Productions, Meetings & Media, Dream Vision Studios, EcoQuest, NAPA Auto Parts, Interstate Batteries, Wild Oats Marketplace, Bristol-Myers Squib, Lilly, Opryland, Honda & Toyota have help put Westpark on the map in the corporate and advertising market.

Westpark Creative has been one of the primary recording vendors for Dollywood Entertainment for several years. In 2005 Tom worked directly with Dolly Parton on her new Imagination Playhouse attraction at Dollywood theme park. Two new shows for Dollywood are in the works for 2006.

Tom has been involved with several Dove and Grammy award winning groups-projects in the Christian Music Industry. Word Records, the Benson Company, Provident, Diadem Records, Lifeway, Lillenas, Cedarmont Kids, and many independent bands and artists continue to make up a very exciting client base.

In early 2007 Tom worked with Taylor Ware from the hit show "America's Got Talent". With Gary Musick Productions, Tom also has several new shows in production for Norwegian Cruise Line and continues to be a primary music recording vendor for Dollywood Theme Park. Also in early 2007, Tom also worked with newly signed country artists "Carter's Chord".

In 2007, Tom was one of four Nashville producer/engineers selected to record the Lifeway Worship Project which is slated to be one of the largest recording endevours in modern history. The Lifeway Worship Web site, launching in 2008, will be the largest church music resource of its kind.

2008 has brought a new partnership with Florida based, POET Theatricals. Tom and the Westpark team have been busy producing music for the Celebrity Cruise ship "Solstice" and coming in 2009 the next Solstice class ship "Equinox". Two of the largest four star cruise ships ever built for Celebrity.

Also in 2009 a unique opportunity came with Poet Theatrilcals for a new show opening in Singapore called "Reverie, Cirque On Ice". Ninety minutes of completely original music was a great challenge and a wonderful experience.

On tap for 2010 are three new show for Celebrity Cruises on their newest ship "ECLIPSE" and another Cirque show for POET Theatricals for Casino ESTRIOL in Portugal.

The Process

As I mentioned before, we try to start with great songs and great arrangements. That happens only when a talented arranger is involved in the early stages of a project. For me, that is a critical call that we make depending on the style and needs of the project.

Todays studio technology, like Pro-Tools, allows for multiple production and recording techniques. Sometimes we track "live" with a full rhythm section, other times we use a half programmed-half live approach. It really just depends on what is best for that project or piece of music.

For stage shows and industrials we have learned that many clients aren't sure what they need until we actually build out an arrangement. With this in mind, we like to begin in the MIDI domain and get pre-approval on issues such as key, tempo, and form. We then send out Mp3s of rough tracks for approval. Many of our clients won't work any other way due to the flexibility this process offers.

At the end of a live show production we are also fully prepared to bring Pro-Tools directly to the venue and make any final mix or spacing changes right on the spot. We know that "show flow" is critical and cannot be fully determined until show run-throughs actually take place.

For live band projects we can accomodate any number of recording techniques. Many bands prefer to record everything "live" and then overdub vocals and additional instruments. No problem, we love live tracking. That's how it all began.

What ever the case, we try to use the production technique that will give our clients the opportunity to make critical changes and pre-approve each step of the production process.
