Biography

In the winter of 1997, Vancouver, B.C. vocalist/guitarist Kurt Frohlich gave birth to Canada’s THE LOVING DEAD. After many years of evolving in sound and image -- and realizing the need for a new identity -- the band changed its name to THE UNDERGROUND REBELS and moved to Las Vegas. Though THE REBELS’ have garnered comparisons to Cheap Trick, Jet and Queens of the Stone Age, the band’s sound is its own, wholly original as well as widely accessible.

The four REBELS – singer Frohlich, drummer Todd Waetzig, bassist Devlin Harkell and guitarist Brent Muscatt -- have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada and the world. Frontman Frohlich and bassist Harkell are the founders of the KISS-endorsed tribute band Black Diamond and also members of Marky Ramone’s band of the world famous Ramones. Kurt also sings with 80s rock legend Faster Pussycat. Waetzig performs and tours with the world-renowned Blue Man Group. Brent Muscat is a founding member of Faster Pussycat who he has toured the world with for more than 15 years. As THE UNDERGROUND REBELS, the powerhouse line-up recently released the new CD, simply titled “The Ep,” to great acclaim. It’s no wonder, with Michael Sak (producer of the first five Goo Goo Dolls albums) as engineer. Music from “The EP” is currently being used by the Ultimate Fighting Championship for its Pay Per View events and at the UFC’s live shows as well. Songs from “The Ep” are also featured on the UFC Xbox and Play Station 2 game. THE REBELS’ single “Rewind” is receiving airplay on Las Vegas radio stations.

Of course, THE UNDERGROUND REBELS’ live show is nothing short of spectacular. Like their childhood heroes KISS, THE REBELS aim to entertain as well as titillate. “We want to make rock-and-roll a spectacle again,” says Frohlich. “We put on as much of an arena-sized show as the clubs allow us to.”

It all began in earnest in 2000 when The Loving Dead released “Do It Again.” The band’s infectious hard-rock power hooks earned immediate notice, and the single “You” landed in rotation on Western Canada’s largest rock radio station, Vancouver’s C-FOX. In concert, The Loving Dead honed their chops opening for such acts as Motley Crue, Dokken, W.A.S.P. and Bang Tango, and toured with Sebastian Bach (formerly of Skid Row). The band’s sound appealed to a wide variety of audiences -- from pop to rock to thrash metal -- which meant they could perform with any number of acts from all genres.

Now THE UNDERGROUND REBELS are making their mark on Las Vegas, appearing at The House of Blues and headlining at The Joint in The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino with opening act The Killers. Las Vegas radio is airing the first single from “The EP,” “Do It Again,” a song so powerful it was featured by NHL’s Edmonton Oilers last season whenever the team scored a goal. And Frohlich gained a personal audience when he was featured on the VH1 show “AMBUSHED!” Frohlich was chosen from hundreds of entries by The Goo Goo Dolls to perform with the band onstage at The Mandalay Bay Concert Center in Las Vegas.
