Hi, we're the Honey Eaters, Clytie and Roo, a duo of mandolin, harmonica, Stomperoo stomp box and guitar, with harmony voices. We play original and covers of country, folk and blues with influences from far and wide.

You might call us "Alternative Country". We sing about stuff close to our hearts, and we're connected with the land, being amongst other things, timber farmers in Killarney, QLD, Australia. We're involved in rejuvenating and revegetating ex-grazing black soil country.

If you like our music, we'll come and play for you. We can do a whole night of a mix of our own stuff and lots of country/bluegrass/roots faves, or a 50-minute show or anything in between.

We played at Mad Ass recently...we got a good reception. and met some great people again Ali, Rosie, Michael, Mark, Mary...the Pirate Brides..to name a few..thanks for having us!

The Honey Eaters: Biography

Clytie Binder grew up in a family of artists. She studied classical piano as a child, started to play keyboards and guitar in bands as a teenager.
She graduated from the Contemporary Music Degree at Southern Cross University Lismore, specializing in jazz piano influenced by World Music. It was while living in Scotland that she became interested in the Celtic and folk music tradition.

After returning to Australia she picked up the mandolin and blues harp and has since tried to bring to them all the musical influences and experiences she has enjoyed so far.

Roo Friend was born in the UK and travelled widely before settling in Australia. Roo began playing in rock bands at age 13 and went on to play guitar, banjo and drums professionally with acts such as Ol'55, Col Joye, Judy Stone, Lucky Starr, Normie Rowe and Long Way To The Top.

Roo's sound takes its influences from acoustic blues, folk and jazz.
He is a graduate of The University Of New England (Musicology) and studied at the NSW Conservatorium as well as under Ike Isaacs.

The Honey Eaters, formed in 2004 feature their own original compositions. The songs are influenced by bluegrass, folk and country but also draw on other genres including jazz, classical and music from other cultures.
