With a craft reminiscent of her forebears- Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Tori Amos, among others- Stephanie Wright has taken her impressive vocal technique, her top-notch piano playing and her gift for heartfelt melodies on unsparing lyrics to form a substantial catalogue of songs.
Though never a stranger to music, Stephanie began on a different tact. While a teenager in Santa Barbara, CA, she not only played the piano but also studied classical singing, aspiring to a career on the recital and opera stage. She received a degree in music at UCSB, but ultimately Stephanie's notion of where music fit in her life changed. She relocated to New York and recorded The Road to Here--a sampling of her first efforts at writing. Though the album was made on a shoestring budget, it managed to sell out its initial printing, and she gained a small group of fans along the way.
With her second CD, The Turning Point, now available and her third under way, Stephanie Wright is just beginning.

She pursued an academic degree in music at UC Santa Barbara--not writing songs but papers and harmony exercises. But ultimately Stephanie's notion of where music fit in her life changed. Eventually she relocated to New York City and recorded The Road to Here--a sampling of her first efforts at songwriting. Though the album was made on a shoestring budget, it managed to sell out its initial printing, and she gained a small-but-enthusiastic group of fans along the way. She performed at clubs, bookstores, open mic nights and benefit parties.
