Slic (Erwin Abcede)

Early 2003 was a time of decision making for Erwin Abcede (aka Slic) in the area of dance music production. Electronic music became a hobby for him beginning in 1988. He and a DJ friend, who had purchased a Yamaha portatone synthesizer, did a remake of New Order's "Blue Monday" with amusing results.
Since then Slic was hooked to electronic music production. The recording of that earlier venture is lost now. What remained, and even stronger today, is the passion to create music with an array of electronic equipment and music production software to produce danceable and meaningful tracks.

In the late 80's and early 90's he crafted numerous tracks that managed to get airplay in some clubs, parties, fashion shows and live performances but were never released for commercial purposes. His musical styles back then ranged
from New Wave, House, New Age and even Orchestral Baroque simulations. As mentioned earlier, 2003 was decision time. He decided to commit himself to upgrading his knowledge and music production tools, among other things, to 21st century standards and go public. Several factors brought this about but one of the main driving forces was the spur of the moment purchase of an album called, "The Others" by the Italian DJ/Producer, Mauro Picotto. He described the album as "track after track of cleverly crafted techno." He's been a Mauro Picotto fan ever since. "Back to Cali" is his favourite track on that cd. That album drew him back into music production after an absence of over a decade. During that time he freelanced as a decorative painter/designer and only restricted himself to music listening and dancing the night away in clubs. But he never forgot his bedroom music production roots.

Today, Slic has officially released his productions through his label, Slictracks, and has
provided his music for distribution through Indie Pool (Canada) Inc. to various online music providers.
He is continuously working on numerous productions and has taken up spinning, first records and now cds
at various Toronto area clubs, bars and parties if need be. But his first priority is always music production.
When it comes to influences and style he can be considered eclectic and versatile. He would much rather
leave it up to the listener what his productions sound like. Ask him and he'll answer, "You tell me". But
just for the record Slic loves House, Latin House, Trance, Techno, warming up to Electro and finds Drum N' Bass amusing.
