Selfovercome has not merely become standard-bearers for GENERATION HEAVY; the standard has trampled and pushed aside. Heavy music is once again re-ignited by a band unafraid to rewrite the rules of the game.

It all happened just as the band became reenergized; with new blood in the band, critical raves that soar above mere hackneyed "acclaim" along with a hard-earned reputation as one of the areas best live acts. The bands latest album, Code of Arms, was reviewed through a worldwide review board; "Blended thundering elements of hardcore and screamo, with at times unexpectedly beautiful melodies. Like a sleeping giant, songs will explode and retreat throughout the intricate mix, blending the raw, intense vocal rage of the lead singer who also offers softer, melodic singing. Piercing guitar riffs, slippery bass lines, and tough breakdowns make Selfovercome more than satisfactory.

The low chugging guitar and sheer vocal rage on Darkest Intention is more than enough to not only hook you in, but definitely get you moving and energized for what else they have in store for you. Flesh and Blood balanced by energetic verses, soaring choruses and a clear handle on melody. The title track is an unabashed monster of a song, different than anything the band has ever written. Its epic drive nearly crosses the border into power-ballad territory. "Code of Arms" is an anthem that's heavy in the most non-traditional of senses, building with dynamic energy into a chorus that, all in all, is perhaps Selfovercomes biggest achievement.

The current version of Selfovercome is rounded out by original members Jeremy Dienstiber (drums) and Jon Kroll (guitar). After a long and tiring search, Alexander Provost makes it abundantly clear that he was the best choice to take the frontman slot, thereby enhancing the band. Provost shines as a frontman and that in turn gives the rest of the band a bit more confidence. The bands newest editions, Mike Hipkiss (bass) and Joe Benedict(guitar) bring a new depth and definite sense of heavy to the music; along with comedic tension-relieving humor to make any goal effortless to achieve. All the members of this band bring to it a respectability and integrity that collectively has made a mark on bands throughout the heavy music scene.

Their newly brewed chemistry was put to the test during the album's grueling recording sessions. "Writing this record was much more stressful than the last," Dienstiber says. "Trying to write and tour at the same time was a major chore. On the other hand, the line-up changes made me excited to see how this record would unfold. I'm really psyched about what we have brought to the table." We want our music to make people forget about everything. We want them to get so wrapped up in the energy we give off that they forget about their problems and just enjoy the moment," Kroll adds. "You always want people to enjoy it, whether they're the kids who are beating the crap out of each other, the ones in the back nodding their heads or just the casual listener," Provost concludes. "But first and foremost, we wanted an album that WE were happy with. And we've made it."

Some of Selfovercomes' accomplishments include being nationally recognized and awarded for best music in 2005 and 2006 through Citadel Communications and Labatt Blue, receiving national radio air play on WEDG Buffalo 103.3 The Edge, gaining European radio play, locking a deal with promotors and gaining access to the Canadian music scene, gaining several label interests, and a featured slot at the legendary CBGB's in New York City on a past tour.

All of this amounted to a Selfovercome mission statement more powerful than any of the members had ever imagined. And one that's sure to further establish their place at the center of the growing new movement of down-to-earth bands that have shed the pretensions of heavy metal's checkered past while embracing everything positive and powerful the genre has ever offered.
