Sam began performing in high school, when he joined an indie rock band called Papercollar Joe (also Corey's Falling). As the band's singer, he played in coffee shops and teen centers all over Wisconsin and the neighboring states, including a small tour to Colorado. After Papercollar Joe disbanded and Sam went to college, he studied classical singing and composition; however, moved by circumstance and by a strong desire for independence from the stifling pretense of the classical music scene, Sam picked up his guitar and started singing whatever came to his head. He has not stopped singing since. He strives for music with strong lyricism, and structural simplicity. Basically, he writes what he himself like to hear.
