Sam Ferguson

Sam Ferguson Band is a three-piece group from Peterborough, Ontario. The band's sound could be described as stimulating alternative rock, incorporating elements of various other musical styles such as blues and progressive. The band originally formed in 2004 through the coming together of Sam Ferguson (vocals and guitar), Kyle Monahan (drums), and Eric Butler (bass and backing vocals). Amidst their early performances the trio recorded their first demo at Haggarty Sound Studio, just outside of Peterborough. During this period they also placed 2nd in the KAOS Radio Battle of the Bands 2005. After a series of name and lineup changes, the band reverted back to their original lineup and settled on Sam Ferguson Band as an official name. They also began performing accompanied by vocalist Missy Knott, who has offered both lead and backing vocals for most of the band's performances to date.

With this lineup the band went on to win the Kenner Collegiate Battle of the Bands 2007, securing a performance slot at the annual Rock the Wake Festival in Haliburton, Ontario. However the band was soon faced with yet another lineup change as they found themselves in need of a bassist and Matthew Karas, a former bandmate of Sam's, was brought in to fulfill the position. With this lineup the band recorded an in-studio performance for Junction 28, a local music showcase aired on TVCogeco. In fall 2007 the band was forced to take a hiatus during which Sam and Missy continued to perform as The Sam and Missy Show, and Sam was additionally employed as lead guitarist for up-and-coming Canadian recording artist Andrew James. In 2008 the band agreed to reunite recording another 3 song demo, as well as recording songs for Missy Knott, at Studio 29 in Warkworth. Soon after they were to be faced with yet another lineup change as they needed yet another bassist, which brought them to Rob Foreman another local musician, whom they will be playing many shows with for the months to come.
