Bio

After performing his first "paying gig" at the age of 13, Robert Welch was hooked on making music.
A multi-instrumentalist, Robert plays guitar, dobro, harmonica and drums and began writing his own songs shortly after learning his first guitar chords. His original compositions run the gamut of emotions. From the joyful, harmonica driven All Right Tonight, the sad remembrances of friends long departed in Ghosts, and the tribute to the only civilian casualty at the battle of Gettysburg in The Ballad of Jennie Wade, the song subjects are varied and heartfelt.

As a solo artist and as part of the duo, Robert A. and Helen (Reisen), he picks and sings his way through around 70 performances a year in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. Venues include Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville, TN. Cafe Carpe in Ft. Atkinson, WI, and The Wild Hog In The Woods in Madison, WI.

2004 brought recognition for two of Robert's original songs in the VH-1 Song of the Year songwriting competition. In April he was listed in the Suggested Artist category for the song, The Ballad of Jennie Wade. In June, a top four finalist for Snow Flakes In June (A Daughter's Wedding Day.)

Welch has been a guest and his music featured on WORT radio in Madison, WI. Down On The Corner with Bob Dorr on Iowa Public Radio, KUNI, and Midwest Music Makers on KGRR radio, Dubuque, IA.

Informational features have appeared in numerous print publications, including Midwest Folk Magazine, River Stages, Dubuque
