We'd rather be making music than writing bios, so if you like what you hear contact us. Music should be able to speak for itself. We'll be happy to bore you with details about us if you like the songs. Acoustic based rock has found a new voice-RpM. In the recordings you can hear the natural flow of the music as the band turns out tight, sometimes complex, grooves. Not an easy task considering Richard plays all the instruments himself. Live, RpM, are truly extraordinary. Whether alone or with a band, the audience always gets more than expected. From Richard’s weaving of a song’s lines, to Michele’s brilliant voice and astounding piano playing, RpM always leaves the audience wanting more. As strong advocates for music education–both Michele and Richard are veteran highschool music teachers–RpM are able to easily appeal to several key demographics without sacrificing a song’s integrity, musical flow or market appeal.

Bio

“. . .an ambitious undertaking. . . .beautifully performed. . . .clear and effective."
-Recording Magazine

Songs can be like a stream of consciousness. There is a definitive stylistic flexibility to RpM's songs. Sometimes a very aggressive sound can give way to a radically passive–perhaps calming is a better word–musical moment. With no interest in maintaining any kind of musical boundaries, RpM has been able to produce songs of a wide appeal; and while usually collaborating with his partner Michele, whose vocals add a depth and clarity that is both unique and enviable, RpM’s Richard Maxwell has found a way to maintain this “everyman” appeal without compromising his musical sensibilities.

“I guess I always come back to the atmosphere a song creates. That's true whether I am writing alone or, as I have come to prefer, with Michele. The more spontaneous, the better, especially since I really don't consider myself much of a guitarist or piano player. I'd rather just be in the midst of the sound and let things just happen. Frankly, after doing this for so long, I am certain I would just get very confused and musiclally useless if I thought about it too much as I am writing.
