Who is Rex Murphy?

Rex began playing acoustic guitar at age 9 with the help and encouragement of his father Rex Murphy, Sr, piano / guitar player. At about 16, he first heard Van Halen's 'Why Can't This Be Love' and was forever hooked on electric guitar. Rex attended the Atlanta Institute of Music in 1997.
In the years following, Rex's influences varied from Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Slash, Jimmy Herring, Van Halen, Mr. Big, Steely Dan, 70's funk (EWF, James Brown, Marvin Gaye), just to name a few. With the Diamond Band (Quitman, GA) Rex has opened up for Little River Band, Andy Griggs, and Joe Diffie. Rex is currently contributing guitar and vocals to the Birmingham-based cover band 'Nonetheweiser' and working on various original projects. Rex's skills include songwriting, recording, acoustic and electric guitar, lead and backing vocals--rock, pop, and country--vocal styles: Matchbox20, Gavin DeGraw, Sublime, Rascal Flatts, Clint Black and various other artists.
