PNFA stands for "Popular Nightmare Folk Art" which refers to the novel "Virtual Light" by William Gibson. In the novel this is the name for a certain kind of decorative art, you'd find in living rooms for example, that assumes to be extremely beautiful, but is in fact made of the remains of humans, who died some hundred years ago. A contrast, that is reflected in the music PNFA makes. There is hard and fast Drum 'n' Bass, but also beautiful, deep downtempo and jazzy tracks. It might become really beasty from time to time, good working on the dancefloor but there is always a quality inside that makes you able to listen to the tune also in your living room. And that's the point: music that works both ways- for your whole life.

Project History

The project PNFA was founded in 1995 by Wolfram Gruss. Originally concipated as trance project, PNFA soon broke the beat and since then genres from Drum 'n' Bass to Triphop, from Bigbeat to Ambient and lots of other styles have been mixed together. It's not a genre PNFA wants to be known for, it's a special kind of sound.
Already six albums and about 150 tracks have been released under the pseudonym PNFA. Single pieces have been on numerous compilations all over the world. PNFA has already worked together with S|C (Album: Popular Abandoned Correspondency) and the American Artist Oozish (Symbiot). There are also Remixes for Stylophonic, De Phazz, Harland, Bob James and David Sanburn, Oozish, Soundfreak, Coco Street, Modo Azul, Laura J. Bollé, DBRO and Moon Car...more are already in developement. PNFA is performing live together with Wohnton's finest Flashbaxx (www.creamsound.de). Wolfram Gruss is also engaged in an experimental side project called Mi:GFU.
