Leonid was born in Odessa, Ukraine. He started to study music at the age of 10. First it was drums and piano. He grew up listening to a lot of jazz, fusion, R&B and pop music as well as classical music. Leonid liked to “play by ear” songs of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire and many others. Then he started to play drums in various rock and jazz bands & circus orchestra.
Leonid graduated from Kiev College of Music in 1987, specializing in drums & percussion instruments. In 1988 he came to United States and since then he has been living in Brooklyn, New York.
From 1990 to 1993 he has played in various bands around NYC.
In 1995 Leonid started to write music, using all kinds of synthesizers – it was mostly meditation and a “New Age” type of music. Later on he started to combine dance and pop music culture with spiritual energy and ideas of “New Age” and meditation music.
In 1997 he arranged, co-composed and produced a CD for his brother – composer Vladimir Ostrovsky, who then used that material in his performance on The RED SQUARE Festival in Moscow in commemoration of 850th anniversary of Moscow.
In 1997 Leonid’s instrumental tune called “THE JOY THAT IS ALWAYS IN YOU” won Second Prize in the instrumental category of the International Songwriting Contest “UNISONG” in Los Angeles, CA. It was chosen by top industry judges out of over 3,000 entries from more than 20 countries.
In 2002 Leonid co-wrote and co-produced together with a talented composer and producer Dennis Mavashev a song called “Without You (I feel Blue)”. That song won First Prize in 2002 Billboard Song Contest.
In the beginning of 2006 Leonid signed a publishing deal with a famous European singer Ishtar Alabina (www.Alabina.info) for his song called “Lepestki Opadaushih Roz” (Patels of Falling Roses).
His new single called “Naked” has got a positive feedback from DJ’s at WKTU dance station of NYC and Sonny Records and is enjoying popularity in Russian community. It’s being played on a popular Russian radio station VSE 87.7 FM. A dance remix of the song done by a famous European trance producer Airbase is in rotation on XM radio, channel 82 – one of favorite track of DJ Zoltar at his “Subterranean Show”.
Leonid wrote numerous commercials for a Russian radio in Brooklyn and a theme song or a radio ID for a Russian radio in San Francisco.
At present time Leonid continues to write in various genres of music – pop, dance, Latin pop, ballades, pop rock, tango, and R&B.
