Murray Boal's Bio

Murray Boal is a singer-songwriter from the Cariboo region of central British Columbia, Canada. For the past 25 years he has also co-operated Dragon Mountain Farm an organic vegetable and sheep farm in the beautiful Quesnel River Valley. Murray divides his time between family, farming, and music.

Murray has always tried to write songs that reflect his rural lifestyle and hopefully capture some of the spirit of this Cariboo region. With its rich history, diverse geography and colourful characters the Cariboo is full of things to write and sing about.

Murray began writing and performing his original songs in the mid 1970’s. In 1990 Murray received a FACTOR New Talent Demo Award (along with fiddler Tom Neville) and went on to record his debut album. Since 1995 Murray has released three independent albums.

Songs from Murray’s first two CD’s have been produced as music videos and used in the 1996 documentary film about horse logging, Stepping Lightly. Murray’s songs have also been featured regularly on CBC radio.

Murray’s most recent album, Bud’s Sawmill, is once again a collection of story-telling songs about people and places, recorded with his long time Cariboo band mates The Cultivators. Since its release songs from Bud’s Sawmill have received folk/roots radio airplay across Canada, the US, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

In between work on the farm Murray tries to perform as much as possible, playing a variety of festivals and concerts throughout western Canada.
