Merlin began to explore the world of hip-hop as far back as his grade-school days. In 1996, he played around with his first mixer and conjured up a sound that was pure magic. Local emcees spotted his talent and encouraged him to purchase a beat machine. Unstoppable, now that a new impulse had been tapped, Merlin enrolled himself in college and worked toward a degree in Multimedia. He also spent much of his free time as an assistant engineer at Fathom Recording Studios in West Trenton, NJ, where he perfected his craft.

In 1997, at a studio in Philly, Merlin met an area emcee and writer, Wize Dome. Their friendship became the basis for a partnership, and in 1999 they founded Soul Arc Entertainment. Now a skilled producer, Merlin's accomplishments include heavy contribution to Soul Arc Entertainment’s first commercial release, “The ARChives” (March 2001) and "The Gold and Purple Album" (Jay-Z remixes, February 2004.)
