Born into a musical family and raised on a steady diet of eclectic music, Matt Berlin has been making noise of one kind or another since birth.

In the late 80s, he attended the Hollywood-based Musicians' Institute, where he studied bass guitar under the likes of Jeff Berlin (no relation), Abe Laboriel, and Mike Porcaro.

In 1994, Matt co-founded the heavy-hitting prog-ternative band 23rd Hour, which released its debut CD, Immortal Coil, on Cydonia Records in 1995. The CD landed international radioplay and distribution.

Matt has lately dedicated his creative life to exploring ambient, trance, and world music; combining diverse textures, complex rhythms, and lush orchestrations into haunting and evocative songs that have drawn comparison to the likes of Peter Gabriel, Bill Laswell, and Dead Can Dance.

He currently lives in San Francisco, California where he works with many Bay Area musicians on a variety of projects as multi-instrumentalist and producer.
