Hike!!

He who binds to himself a joy does the winged life destroy; but he who kisses the joy as it flies lives in eternity's sun rise. ~William Blake

¿Me disculpo, que es éste?

Whether he?s fueled by coffee in an all-night diner, a pint in the taverns that populate the village of Sag Harbor or the sweet salt that soaks in the air on the beaches of Long Island, Mark Thornton?s music is the quixotic search for that elusive girl with the pony tail in a red t-shirt and jeans. A musical stew with influences like John Hiatt, Martin Sexton, Morrissey, Catherine Wheel, Townes Van Zandt, and the Dave Mathews Band, his music is to his listeners what it represents to him: the broadcast of a journey that is at turns blissful and melancholic ? but always worthy of celebration . His sketches from the road are a soundtrack for the miles as they click by.

Most of the songs on Mark?s latest EP, Halcyon, were written on Long Island?s east end, a mélange of life where wealthy wayfarers mix with old farmers and fishermen. As comfortable using the beach as he is the barstool as his performance stage, Mark has gained many admirers of his work ? appealing to saints and sinners, toughs and tycoons alike.

Mark has recently moved to New York City, making Greenwich Village his latest thumbtack on the map. Nights he can be found singing away at a club on Bleecker or West 3rd, or howling on a Hudson pier - serenading the moonlit shadows .

Currently, Mark is writing his follow-up to Halcyon, an EP tentatively titled Phoenix, planned for release in late 2005. The environment has changed - the pounding of footsteps on city streets has replaced the clicking pavement slabs on the highway and the island winds. But he?s still sketching the results of his adventures while looking for that girl with the pony tail in a red t-shirt and jeans.
