Larry Tarof ("Dr. L") is an Ottawa-based musician with a loyal following within the Ottawa music scene in Canada. He has an established reputation for outstanding pop/musical theater arrangements, choral arrangements and original compositions, and is well known as the busiest musical theater accompanist in the city. His growing body of original works (100+ since 2002) includes pop/rock, jazz, musical theater and sacred music. He is a seasoned, respected choir director (presently at Agudath Israel) and has done work for hundreds of clients in Canada and the U.S, including Mirvish Productions. He is known for his very "busy" piano playing, and as a gigging musician, he has appeared live hundreds of times with piano, guitar and/or vocals. In the studio, he has produced hundreds of backup tracks, many demos and released two fully produced CDs ("Cupid 911" in 2004 and "Fearless" in 2005). He has a reputation for “developing talent”. "Dr. L" was profiled in 2005 on CJOH-TV's popular "Regional Contact" and has appeared at other times on Ottawa television. He was an invited judge for Ottawa's Kiwanis Idol, 2005 and 2006. Two of his larger collaborations are the music for “Cupid 911”, a musical theater revue, co-written with lyricist Lila Rose, and a new musical “Olympus” co-written with lyricist Jenny Tarof. Yes, he really does have a Ph.D. and even scientific publications in the high tech world. This eclectic background distinguishes him as uniquely multi-talented in the operation of his studio, "Dr L's Music".
