A melodically sinister vibe, with a positive message. Drawing from influences such as Lamb of God and Cat Stevens.

Biography

"In your hands, I place this rhyme..."

Kyle Whittaker was born with melody in his veins and his drive for music; unwavering. At a young age, Kyle took on many musical instruments, jumping from the piano to the clarinet to the guitar. One thing seemed clear; when it came to music, he just fit naturally. It wasn't until his teen years that Kyle fixed himself on one instrument. Using his guitar, he joined a number of cover bands until finally forming his own band, Mistaken Prophecy, in 2002. Whittaker's focus remained on the project until its disbanding in February '07. From there, Kyle decided to take his talents solo, and began work on his first solo album…

"Will the demons you speak of say you tried?"

Over the years, Whittaker's song writing became more complex. He pulled from his metal influences as well as his folk, turning out songs that were melodically angry and melancholic, yet positive in meaning. Often, his lyrics would convey a message of hope and/or renewal, but these meanings would not be on the surface. "I like to keep some mystery to my lyrics. Everyone relates to a song differently, and I think that's important." Whittaker explains that he hopes listeners will interpret their own message and use it to get through their day. "People shouldn't give up. There's always a glass half full…"

"Stillness quickens their charade…"

Although his first album is still in the works, Whittaker has been showcasing his new songs to audiences all over Niagara. And so far, the reaction is positive. Using his fan base generated from his former bands, Kyle is attempting to obtain tour dates outside the Niagara region. With his first EP on the way, Whittaker looks to the future…
