Reviews
What do you get when you cross four metro indie boys with some classic 50s and 60s melodies? The edgy, fresh sounds of the J. Price Band. J. Price has been writing and playing his own music since he was seven years old. Completely self taught, this Austin boy was raised by a family where music was a big part of his everyday life. Through struggles and hardships, and when life seemed to deal him a bad hand, J. redirected all of his energy into his music. His freshman debut album, I’m so Indie is a testament of his past, present, and where his future is headed. Recorded by acclaimed producer Lars Goransson (The Cardigans, Fastball), this band is the real deal and the kicker, they aren’t even signed yet. His first single, Beautiful caught my attention the first time I heard it. Musically it is simple, not overly complicated. It doesn’t try to do too much, but it grabs you and leaves you wanting more. Lyrically completely sexy. Look out men, when this guy takes the stage, you are going to need to hold on tight to your girl because this Austin boy knows how to sing about love. The rest of the album can hold its own. When you hear his first single, you might think you have his guy pegged into one specific genre, but this band knows how to please a crowd. There is a song on this album for everyone. My only question is, when is this band playing New York?

J. PRICE a duo of seemingly very talented musicians creates a very pleasing blend of modern pop rock music. Their track "Beautiful" harnesses the power of soft rock music, encompassing it with a catchy melody and sing-a-long like vocals that stand out as something splendidly different from the average pop-rock band. As much as I don't fancy "light" music, I am finding my self digging further into this band's music, as each track has something unique and diverse to offer the listener - they don't seem to stick to just one style of playing like so many other radio-friendly acts do. All in all, I'd say that J. PRICE has a touching sound that just about anyone can enjoy for one reason or another.

This band has a poppy feel with an alternative rock background. Not quite hard, not quite soft, not quite emo, definitely indie and definitely Austin. With a couple of releases under their belt, they tend to not really fit into any particular genre, and incorporate a lot of different styles to their music. Best of all, I don't really think I can think of anyone that I can compare their music to, specifically, which is great because that means they leave unique footprint in my brainpan. I keep hearing "Star Light Star Bright" over and over in my head today. Definitely a band to check out around Austin if you get the chance and when they hit the road as well.
