“What is right for the song is key,” says guitarist/vocalist Jason Foster, the nucleus and writing force behind Mk-Ultra. Those who know Foster (who has played with the likes of Primus-on-crack outfit Lunchmeat and the funkier, laid back Three, to name a few) realize that he is a technically adept and gifted guitarist. Forsaking noodling for a more rhythmic, textured approach on Mk-Ultra’s self-titled CD, Foster lives up to his statement, never overplaying but still giving the listener the sense that he was not watching his fretboard and agonizing over every note.
The CD was recorded recently with now-departed bassist Joe Cuchelo (Peacebomb) and drummer Nate Kelly (Shabutie), who also contributed background vocals. Bio

Jason Foster

Jason began his official career at the tender age of 15. Previously a drummer, Jason was soon drawn to the guitar, although some would say the guitar was drawn to him. With his incredible sense of rhythm and melody, Jason was immediately creating unique music, which would become his signature.

“It’s hard to categorize my music sometimes because some songs just come from two different planets,” says Jason of his latest project, MK-Ultra. It’s easy to understand the diversity and structure of his music when you look at the musical influences that have touched him over the course of his career. Guitarists like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, and Randy Rhodes, along with the musical works of Elton John, Bad Brains, and Jane’s Addiction, have all provided Jason with guidance and inspiration to strive for individuality and not limit one’s self.

Originally a self-taught guitarist, Jason would soon seek professional teachings in blues, jazz, rock and even classical guitar. His diverse background and adaptability has allowed Jason to log numerous hours as a studio session musician, as well as, perform with bands like Evidence, Talon, The Guild, Dixie Rockets, Perfect Thyroid, Scratch Baxter, The Reptiles, Johnny Most Project, Chris Max, PeaceBomb, Taylor Made, Outloud Dreamer, Three, Lunch Meat, Paxton and currently, MK-Ultra. Jason has also performed on stage with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, and Matt Chamberlin.(Pearl Jam,
