Bio

Formed in August of 2001, House of Cards is best described as an alt-acoustic jam band, though this description doesn’t quite express the quartet’s eclectic influences. With a fetish for mixed meter and a neglect for key signature, House of Cards produces a sound that is at once groove, rock, and utterly inexplicable.
The best explanation for the eccentricity of House of Cards is the members’ varied backgrounds. Sam McCormally (guitars, keys, vocals) and Jon Weber (percussion) played together in Three Times Nicely, as well as in ska bands (such as The Suburban Heroes) and in jazz ensembles. Steve Quam (basses), formerly of Diversion is a formally trained bassist, who has the experience in hard rock and punk. Mike Hildbold(guitars, keyboards, vocals) is classical pianist and flamenco guitarist, as well as former singer of Stentorian, an alt-metal band.
House of Card’s focus on creating an energetic, fluid live show has yielded appreciable results. The band’s stage presence is gigantic, and it’s interaction with the audience is constant. Guest musicians frequent the stage, providing backup vocals and trumpet to the standard line-up.
House of Card’s debuted at a battle of the bands, in Vienna, Virginia. Competing against local giant PMD, House of Cards won. Gigs at coffee houses and bars have built the band a faithful following. The band is booked to play at the well attended Herndon Festival come June 1. Reporters with the Oakt
