Gustav Magnusson

"3 Story?s makes one"

Short Background
With influences from the people around and everyday life this is the music of Gustav Magnusson. Born in Stockholm Sweden 1984, moved to Norway just long enough to say something odd in Norwegian. Grew up in Malmo/Copenhagen in the south of Sweden/Denmark. Became certified chef on famous Ballymalloe Cookery School in South Ireland. Studies architecture/City planning in Karlskrona Sweden. Former director and founder of student magazine "Forward". Is now running a food/pop culture magazine.
Gustav has been around music ever since he was even younger, when he was big enough to reach the pedals he spend his time at granny?s piano and sang in choirs. Years later his guitar teacher gave up on him and advised him to try on his own, and he did. Gustav is former membrer of Malmo Pop band "Building Bears". Became solo when the band split up.

Becoming Solo and the "Söderåkra Session"
Gustav had just moved from his hometown Malmo in the southeast of Sweden to Karlskrona in the west of Sweden, he had split up with his band and started to make his own songs in his small student dormroom. This time he didn?t have the band to look up to. This resulted in hundreds of recordings and a mellow and honest sound. These lofi home recordings spread quickly between friends at university who quickly begun humming his tunes and demanded a cd. He spends his last Swedish kroner on four hours of studio time. The record could be heard on Canadian Radio. It was recommended on websites such as ?digfi.com?. Gigs where planed. Soon a thousand students walked around singing the songs, and just as many records were sold. This is the story how the real production started with producer Jacob Alm.

The "Gustav Magnusson" Recordings
Hidden behind a letterbox in the centre of a Swedish town called Norrkoping lays Gustav Magnusson?s cd ?The Söderåkra Session?. It?s a friend of producer Jacob Alm who has hidden the record at this location while he jumps off and on the passing train between Vasteras and Karlskrona. Later the same night the producer gets the mysterious message ?package delivered?. Producer Jacob, who is on his way home from a very late party, is prepared for anything. Out of curiosity he takes the route past the letterbox in the early hours of the morning. He finds the recording and is thrilled. Gustav and Jacob hook up during summer 2005 and that?s the start of an exciting collaboration in DAVES recording studio in Norrkoping. After a month filled with fantastic musicians and more friends than you can count, seven of the tunes are complete. They record songs from "The Söderåkra Session" like "I Know I?ll Stay" and "Dance Along With Me" but this time with a full band. But also brand new songs like "I Will Recognise You" (Written to Gustav´s brother) and "You Got To Be There". Jacob and Gustav make a concept for the recordings. As every song is recorded the idea and the feeling of the song is presented. The musicians are then free to express themselves freely within the feeling of the song. This to give the musicians more joy while playing. This will make the songs more alive.
Gustav goes of to the ?Ballymalloe Cookery School? in Ireland where he plays at local pubs. He returns and the record is completed. Gustav is off again. This time to family on Hawaii where he plays at pubs, cafés and twice on ?Hawaiian Public Radio? (KIPO), resulting in coverage on theartsofhonolulu.com. In Sweden the biggest festival after Roskilde, i.e. the Hultsfredsfestival, wants him to join, Gustav returns for final mastering. His new cover and homepage hits the scene. The music can be heard on small radio stations all over the world. And is being sold on www.gustavmagnusson.com and I tunes. This is just the beginning of a longer story as new songs are yet to be recorded....
