All of East New York, several thousand news watchers, and
thousands of fans are all asking the same question... "What type of name
is Fishgrease Jenkins?" One thing for certain is that, if nothing
else, people will never forget the name of this enthusiastic MC from
Brooklyn. Hailing from the Boulevard Houses in East New York, Mr.
Jenkins has become known as an author of the streets while still being
in touch with the rest of the world. His unusual style definitely
coincides with his unusual name and has won over many.
So why call himself Fishgrease Jenkins? It's actually quite
simple. Fishgrease comes from the fact he is "popping" something like
hot fish grease in a pot. Jenkins comes from a popular slang term
(Jenkin). When a party is live or exciting people say it is "Jenkin".
He merged these two things together and developed the name Fishgrease
Jenkins.
Fishgrease became public enemy #1 when he released a video for
his single "I'm From East New York" which is featured on his mixtape
entitled Looseleaf Paper and Blunts. "I'm From East New York" is a
song that very vividly and accurately depicted the culture and
happenings of Mr. Jenkins neighborhood. Police officers in the East
New York area were outraged when they heard a line in the song that
said "We don't talk to police fuck the 75th precinct". Fishgrease was
quickly made to be a monster and gangster by Anthony Herbert (a
community activist), the media, and the N.Y.P.D. His face ended up on
Channel 12, Channel 1, and NBC News in New York City. Despite this
relentless persecution, Fishgrease did what he always does and turned
his negatives into a positive.
Fishgrease Jenkins has been telling his story through his music
has fans (especially those in his neighborhood) rallying behind him
stronger than ever. He and his label mates from E-Way Entertainment
are focusing on putting together one of the strongest independent
movements in hip hop with him at the forefront. This charismatic
artist is definitely making strides in the right direction. Fishgrease
