FAT OPIE History

Based in San Francisco, FAT OPIE began recording and touring in 1994. After three official releases they disbanded amicably in 2001. In 2003, Scott, Robin and Dave rejoined and created OTIS which was an acoustic trio. This resulted in the OTIS cd and several performances.

Discography
BISCUITS (1994)
Recorded and mixed in 3 days at the Record Plant, BISCUITS is a heavy guitar oriented album which lead to a management deal with Lookout Management in LA.
HIPSTERS, FREAKS, FAGS & HOMEBOYS (1996)
Recorded at Prairie Sun Studios, the HIPSTERS record introduced varied instrumentation including banjos, mandolin, accordion and Moog pedals. The band toured extensively for the record and gained airplay and national press including an article in Alternative Press Magazine.
AIRSTREAM (1999)
The AIRSTREAM record was the most ambitious project and brought in a co-producer/engineer named Arjan McNamara. A much more complex record both in songwriting and production, it gave Fat Opie their two biggest successes. The song "Bullets in My Briefcase" won a national band search sponsored by 7-UP/Sonicnet. The song "Mouth Like a Trucker" was featured in the motion picture Along the Way.
OTIS (2003)
This project began as an acoustic show for fun. Former co-producer Arjan McNamara asked them to come to his studio and cut a track. It resulted in nine tracks in two days. This subtle and intimate record was recorded entirely live in the studio. The only overdubs were harmonies and percussion.
NEW ORLEANS (2009) This single is the first new release in six years. Back to the Fat Opie style of instrumentation and production, Scott, Robin and Dave are continuing as Fat Opie. Although the song was written more than ten years ago, it now seems very timely. This track was recorded in their own home studio in Robin's house.
More new tracks are in production.
