Eric Campbell must be schizo. That was my first thought meeting this hip hop artist/producer with more dimensions than the Twilight Zone. He’s a serious Christian who doesn’t go to church. A hip hop artist, not from "the streets", who prefers gangster rap to gospel rap. A producer as comfortable with producing Rock bands as he is cranking out hip hop tracks on his Triton keyboard. And, a Black man who is continually told that he sounds like the world’s favorite white rapper.

"I can admit it" Eric laughs, "I don’t fit in anywhere. I’m a Christian but I don’t really mess with gospel music like that. I’m a hip hop artist but I’m not a thug. And, I’m too commercial for that underground backpacker scene. I’ve never been one to follow anyone’s rules. I just do me. And that’s why I think people feel me."

One listen to his music shows you that Eric isn’t following anyone’s formula. His lyrics are honest, thought provoking and often quite humorous. He can easily switch from a comical commentary on the frustration of being a male in today’s scantily clad society (Breast Slap) to a stern rebuke of the organized church and their "misrepresentation" of God (God’s Bad Rap). And he has no problems making songs that just make you want to dance.

He is also obviously unafraid of controversy. In addition to creating music which he defines as "intelligent, spiritual New York Street Hop", Eric Campbell is the creator and editor of the website SkippinChurch.com. Says E
