I write songs in many genre, like R&B, Soul, Jazz, Pop, Gospel, Brazilian, Choral songs, African, World and Instrumental. I have experience to write songs to other artists from Mozambique, like Ancha Martins, Xixel Langa, Acucena Matola. I wrote a song for a brazilian singer, Barbara Silva. The song title is "Conta comigo". I have songs performed by me on vocals.

I was finalist (nominated) in the UK Songwriting Contest 2015 in 2 categories: Jazz/Blues and Open Category, with the song "Conta comigo"which was recorded by Barbara Silva, a brazilian singer who was trained in music in the Berklee COllege of Music

I received an honorable mention in the Urban and HipHop category for the song "Ï want You" in the Worldwide Music Contest

BIOGRAPHY

Democrito Adolfo da Natividade Manyissa is his real name. Was born in 1973. He is son of Manuel Adolf Elias and Naidy Maria da Natividade. He is a singer/songwriter, from Mozambique. He has Honours and Masters in Library and Information Sciences achieved in Brazil (1998) and South Africa (2015). Writes songs in many genres, like R&B, Soul, jazz, African Jazz, African, Pop/Rock, Brasilian, Jazz , Gospel, Choral in English, portuguese and xirhonga, a local language from Maputo. Started writing songs in 1992, and writes whenever the inspiration comes. The method is intuitive knowledge, logic and self taught. He thinks it is a result of listening to a lot of music, with no limit of genre. Started listening to music in the early ages, through a wide range of vinyl which his late father had left when he was 2 years old, like Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Nat King Cole, Mahalia Jackson, Brook Benton, Otis Redding to name a few, including African and Mozambican music. He remembers that loved listening to "Rainy night in Georgia" by Brook Benton. As time went by discovered other singers like Chaka Khan, Natalie Cole, Mary J Blige, Sarah Vaughan, Cassandra Wilson, Jodeci, BabyFace, karyn White, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Regina Belle, Kelly Price, Rachelle Ferrell, Dianne Reeves, Bobby McFerrin amongst others.

From 1994 to 1998, during his studies in Brazil,had the chance to listen to more diverse music, and
Went Back to Mozambique in 1998. In 2000 Started singing. But previously had singing classes with Prof. Isabel Mabote, at the National School of Music. At the same time was singing being accompanied by the great musician Ivan Mazuze. "Whenever he had time we met. He was playing the piano, and I was singing my own songs. He complimented my songwriting skills, so it encouraged me to write more and more". Had music classes at the Music School of Radio Mozambique, where learnt theory, solfejo and piano.
After some time and participating in Jamm sessions, integrated the Group Jazz Maputo, as one of the vocalists, singing jazz standards for the likes of Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, Natalie Cole.
Have worked mostly with guitar players such as Albino Mbie, Angelico Manhique, Ivo Machel and the pianist Raimundo Mauele in Maputo, recording demos of some songs. In South Africa, Cape Town had the chance to work with Bokani Dyer and Allou April in recording demos of his songs.
After some time he recorded some songs that are being playied in local radios in Mozambique. Songs like "I'll remain in your life" , "A tiko dza hombe" and "Nossa união". He wrote songs to other singers like Ancha Martins "Te quero muito", which was awarded Best Vocal Performance Female in Top Femenino 2003 and Ngoma 2003. "O rouxinol" is another song of him performed by Ancha Martins and Raimundo Mauele. XIXEL Langa recorded his song "U buya hi kwini". With this song she was awarded the Best Newcomer Female on Top Femenino 2004. Acucena Matola recorded the song "Compromisso real". Other singers are about to record more songs of him. Internationally a Brasilian singer with Degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music in Boston recorded his song "Conta comigo", which was included on her first album. With this song D'Manyissa was a finalist in the UK Songwriting Contest 2015 in two categories: Jazz/Blues and Open category.

Still in 2015, his song "I want you" was nominated in the Pop and Urban and Hip Hop category in the "Worldwide Music Contest", and received an honorable mention in the category of Urban and HipHop.
His song "Forca interior"recorded by Orlando Venhereque on flute, was nominated for Best African Jazz Song in the Mozambique Music Awards 2015 (MMA)
Currently is working on his debut album, which will comprise 70% of instrumental songs, and 30 % of songs performed by his vocals. Guest performers are Allou April, Julio Sigauque, Celso Paco , Orlando Venhereque, Ivan Mazuze , Lwanda Gogwane, Galina Juritz amongst others.
