Darien is originally from Detroit, where he studied piano, voice and guitar from a young age. He began perfoming in church as a boy and his first paid gigs were guitar weddings and private parties. He graduated from Oakland University with a BA in Music. While an undergrad he performed extensively at campus events and later on other college campuses as well. Darien moved to Los Angeles and has performed in clubs, coffee houses and theatres across the country including San Francisco, Portland, Chicago, Detroit, San Diego and in many venues in Los Angeles. He recieved a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the University of Redlands in 2000 and currently lives in the small mountain town of Idyllwild, CA, about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Darien premiered his recent CD, "Now" at the Annenberg Theatre in Palm Springs, CA on Nov. 14, 2006. "Now" is an acoustic collection of songs written and performed exclusively with voice and guitar by Darien Martus.
