Dan Adler Bio

Dan Adler was the Minister of Music and Worship at the Church of the Open Door in Minneapolis, Minnesota for 11 years. In 1993, Dan began a publishing and recording arm of the church called "OUT OF THE DOOR MUSIC". He was involved in co-producing three albums called "Songs from the Open Door - Volume One, Two and Three" and overseeing the production of “Kid’s Songs from the Open Door - Vol. 1” on that label. These albums featured songs written by Dan and other Open Door songwriters and the worship team members as musicians.

Dan has written over 100 songs - eighteen of which were featured on Open Door recordings. Seventy-three other of his songs have been featured on the eight other recording projects that Dan has been a part of. Eight of his songs have also been published in the United Methodist Publishing House’s “Come Celebrate” series and his song “All I Need is You” was put in the United Methodist Hymnal supplement “The Faith We Sing” in 2001. Dan has also had songs published by Word Music, Allegis Music, G3 Music and Lillenas Music. In 1999, international African-American worship leader Ron Kenoly recorded Dan’s song “It is Good” in Rome, Italy on his project “WE OFFER PRAISES” and it was re-released on the “Lift Him Up Collection” released in 2005 through Integrity Music. The Christian and Missionary Alliance included 5 of Dan’s songs in the new Alliance Hymnal in 2003 and two of Dan’s songs were included in the Disciples of Christ Hymnal in 2004. In the fall of 2000, Dan’s song “What We Really Need” was in the top 10 on the national CCRB Praise and Worship radio charts for 14 weeks. In the winter of 2001, Dan’s song “Right Here, Right Now” was in the top 20 of the CCRB Praise and Worship charts for 8 weeks. In 2002, his song “To You” was the number one song for six weeks on the CCRB Praise and Worship charts.

In June of 1996, Dan resigned from his Music Minister position at the church of the Open Door so that he and his wife, Sandy, could begin a new para-church ministry called “Heart of the City Ministries”. This ministry is primarily focused on promoting and leading regular, city-wide worship celebrations in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. These events are focused on crossing denominational and racial barriers in uniting believers in worship and prayer. The vision is to be a bridge-building activity between races and denominations to encourage, strengthen and unite the diverse Body of Christ in their area through regular gatherings of worship and prayer. These events are led by Dan and Sandy and their 22 piece, inter-racial Heart of the City Worship Band. In the spring of 1999 they released a worship CD featuring 13 of Dan’s songs with the Heart of the City Worship Band called “What We Really Need” and in 2001 they released their CD entitled “With One Voice” featuring 12 other songs written by Dan. Their latest CD, "It All Belongs to You" featuring 12 more of Dan's songs, was released in 2006.

Besides the ministry of Heart of the City and songwriting, Dan also has a ministry as a featured guest speaker/worship leader. His main focus is on addressing the issue of worship renewal at conferences such as Music Minnesota, Music Texas and Music Florida as well as leading Worship Renewal Weekends at different congregations as well. Currently Dan is serving part-time as the Pastor of Worship at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Dan and his wife, Sandy, have been married and have been ministering together since 1984. They are both graduates of Crown College. They have two children, Danielle and Ben, and live in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area.
