Dale Effren's Biography

Songwriter, Dale Effren's passion for music can be heard from the moment you press play. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dale developed an interest in music at the early age of 10. He started by learning to play the piano and guitar and composed his first song at age 11. Buoyed by the unending support and encouragement from his parents, Dale took on classical guitar lessons and extensive voice training to prepare him to breakaway from the crowded field of songwriters eagerly trying to distinguish themselves. After receiving a diploma in contemporary music with a concentration on guitar, Dale decided his music would focus on love songs, ballads and soft rock for an ever-increasing adult contemporary music market.

In 2001, Dale settled in Los Angeles where he has continued to perform around town as a sideman for various local bands in some of L.A.'s premier clubs like the Rainbow Room and the Martini Lounge. This local experience helped him to refine his writing skills while still keeping an ear on many of his early and current musical influences--Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper and Poison to name a few. With his appreciation for "80's Glam Rock" and the need to write music with broad-based appeal, he has created a distinct style by combining retro feelings with power ballad force that makes his music stand apart from much of the "same old thing". When you throw in a little bit of country (Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes and Lonestar) you've got the essence of what Dale Effren is--a songwriter on a mission. One of Dale's earliest influences was Mutt Lange, a prominent international music producer from South Africa. He counts Diane Warren as one of his favorite songwriters.

In 2009 Dale was awarded a scholarship from Concord Records for "Writing Lyrics that Succeed and Endure" with lyric icon Marty Panzer and in 2010 UCLA EXTENSION chose Dale's song THIS IS OUR TIME, as its Official Graduation Song. Co-written with Debra Gussin, the song received it's WORLD PREMIERE at Royce Hall in Los Angeles on June 29, 2010, performed by the talented Erich Bergen (Jersey Boys.)

His past, current and new associations and collaborators include songwriter Michael Silversher (Disney's "Gummi Bears Theme Song" and "Talespin Theme Song"), singer/songwriter/producer and Dove award winner Art Reynolds ("Jesus Is Just Alright" - The Doobie Brothers, "Ready For A Miracle" - Patti Labelle/LeAnn Rimes) and Grammy/Golden Globe award winning/nominated songwriter/producer Charlie Midnight (James Brown, Billy Joel, Joe Cocker, Joni Mitchell, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Hilary Duff.)
