In April 1997 two seventeen-year-old schoolfriends, Tim Glanfield and Mike Chittick met in Carl Allen's garage near Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire. Their aim was to start a guitar based band that represented their diverse music tastes. Mike and Carl had been friends for many years and had dabbled in music before with their previous band Goldfish. Likewise, Tim was no stranger to music, having written and performed songs with his close friend Nick Carter under the name Circumspect since 1995.
However this meeting represented the true beginnings of the band Circumspect that can be seen touring the nation today. Tim immediately took over as frontman after impressing the others with his charisma and confidence.
Mike as the most accomplished musician naturally became the lead guitarist. Carl immediately fitted into the group as the bass player. In those early months the three practised hard and wrote a dozen or so songs that made them a well-known and respected force amongst their peers. It was this ambition and drive that Alison Wood-Kaczmar, another schoolfriend, recognised. She was soon recruited as a keyboard player and female vocalist. By the summer of 1997 the band were ready for their first performance in public, a low-key affair in Carl's garage, mainly to friends. Although at the time the band were fairly happy with the way things were going, they all realised that something was missing from their sound; drums!
