A little about me

Hi, my name is Ben. I LOVE MUSIC. I can't think of a time that I haven't been involved in music.

My dad was a DJ on the radio and when I was 5 or 6, I would go to the station with him. The walls of albums (33 1/3 & 45 - I guess that dates me a little) were amazing. All the different styles and genres intrigued me. To this day, I love just about all kinds of music. I started playing piano at age 6 - absolutely loved it. My teacher taught me to read but gave me the freedom to play by ear - which proved to be useful. I took trombone in 4th grade band and in my teens started playing bass. I played all the time - at school and at home.

I started writing and arranging a lot. It was also at that same time that I got hooked on recording. I was hired to play, but the production aspect was where I was heading. I eventually started an 8-track studio, then a 16-track.

Today, I mainly write and arrange for many diverse groups. One of my most memorable projects was arranging a lot of the music for the UTEP Dinner Theatre 25th anniversary. The concert was at the Don Haskins Special Events Center for 10,000 people. There was a 120 piece orchestra and a 200 voice choir. Tim Rice (as in Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice) was honored that night. It was such an amazing feeling to sit by Tim Rice and listen to music that was just a few months earlier hanging out in my brain.
