17th Sun, initially a cover band was formed in November of 2000 in Stevenson, Alabama. After performing covers in NE Alabama and Chattanooga, Tennessee for a couple of years, the band quickly opted to begin writing its own music and made multiple member changes. Vocalist Keith Hughes, the sole remaining original member, was soon joined by Chattanooga rock scene veterans Chip Ables (guitar/vocals), Shane Hartline (guitar), Brian Kelley (drums), and Jody Swygert (bass).

Since then, 17th Sun has emerged as one of the top acts in the Greater Chattanooga area and has Rocked shows all over Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. They have performed live with national recording artists such as Nonpoint, The Exies, Adema, Sponge, Audiovent, Double Drive, Injected, and Sunset Black, as well as nationally touring cover and tribute bands like Chris Jericho’s Fozzy and Mistress of Reality. In 2007, the band also performed at Chattanooga's largest musical event, "The Riverbend Festival".

In December of 2004, 17th Sun also became only the second unsigned band ever to be retired as “champion” of Chattanooga radio station WXRX Rock 105’s “Cage Match” with their Christmas parody “Another Sleigh Coming”. For five consecutive nights, listeners of the Rock 105 call-in contest voted the 17th Sun tune over five other challenging songs from nationally recorded bands. The song was then put into regular rotation for the month of December and made the station’s yearly list of top 105 songs for 2004.

In addition, 17th Sun has been nominated for the "Rock Act of the Year" four consecutive years by the Chattanooga Independent Artists (CIA) and was a nominee for CIA’s "Best New Artist" award five years ago. Most recently, on July 29, 2006, 17th Sun released its debut, full-length album entitled STAND. The album won the 2006 CIA “Best Local Album” award and its second track "So Long" was nominated for "Best Single" !!!
