Automatic Slim blends the power and melody of Alice In Chains and Queens Of The Stone Age with the emotion and social consciousness of Neil Young.

Gelu Sulugiuc – Guitar, Vocals
Growing up in Romania, Gelu could not listen to rock music because the country’s Communist government had banned it. Automatic Slim Biography

Gelu Sulugiuc – Guitar, Vocals

Growing up in Romania, Gelu could not listen to rock music because the country’s Communist government had banned it. After the 1989 revolution, rock n’ roll took Romania by storm, and Gelu was so impressed with the likes of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Metallica that he learned English so he could understand his idols’ lyrics.

Gelu moved to New York in 2000 to start a band with a college friend who shared his love of blues and metal and took the name Automatic Slim from the Howlin Wolf song "Wang Dang Doodle." While the friend quit soon thereafter and the band went through several personnel changes, Gelu persevered and forged Automatic Slim’s haunting and powerful modern sound reminiscent of Alice in Chains, Queens Of the Stone Age and Neil Young. The band's shows are an eruption of energy, as Gelu’s distinctive voice soars over a punchy rhythm section underlying guitars that switch from driving to atmospheric.

Automatic Slim released the self-produced album "Daisy Cutter" in 2002. An unreleased EP followed later that year, then the band recorded a demo in 2003 at Big Blue Meenie Studios in New Jersey and another one in 2004. Their song "Never The Same" has been successful on college radio stations on the East Coast.

The band is gearing up for a U.S. tour of colleges and clubs in Feb/March 2005, playing venues from I-Rock in Detroit to the University of California-Irvine to the Black Cat in Washington D.C. While in Los Angeles, Automatic Slim will play a showcase for major labels at Club Vodka.

Greta Brinkman – Bass, Vocals

Greta is the newest member of the band, contributing considerable touring experience with heavy and versatile playing. Greta toured the world for years with Moby in support of his "Play" and "18" albums.

Before that, Greta recorded and toured with Debbie Harry, L7, The Nuns and Pigface. She signed endorsements with Gallien-Krueger, GHS and Carvin.

Nelson Pla – Drums, Vocals

A punchy drummer with a Deftones/A Perfect Circle feel who also sings haunting backing vocals, Nelson joined Automatic Slim in late 2002 after recording and touring with BarNone artist Mad Happy. Before that he played percussion for Tracy Bonham and fronted his own band Lazarus Effect on the nationally released CD "System."
