The first stage in the selection process will be online Song Submission and Peer Review, powered by Broadjam.com. Each ASCAP EXPO registrant, who chooses to do so, may submit for review up to three (3) original recordings of original musical compositions written or co-written by you. For each song you submit, you will be asked to randomly review and rate three (3) songs submitted by other ASCAP EXPO registrants in your genre areas. The rating scale will be "Good, Better and Best." Likewise, each of your songs will be reviewed and rated by other ASCAP EXPO registrants who have likewise submitted songs. All songs will be reviewed multiple times by multiple participants. The peer review process provides a wonderful opportunity for our registrants to get to know one another's music in advance. It also makes it possible for each registrant to submit up to three (3) songs instead of just one (1).
You may remove a song previously submitted and replace it with a new song (or new version of that song). If you do so, you will have to complete three (3) additional Peer Reviews for each substitute song. We have implemented this change so that registrants can have their most ideal songs put forward at the end of the submission process. The only songs that will be considered are the final songs (up to three (3)) that you submitted. There is no advantage to submitting your songs early in the process as all songs are reviewed randomly an equal number of times.
You must complete the peer review process in order for your songs to be considered for the Song Feedback Panels. Peer Review begins on December 1, 2009 and ends on March 25, 2010. At the end of the peer review process, those songs in each genre that received the highest peer ratings will be reviewed by a screening panel comprised of ASCAP executives and music industry professionals. The screening panel will make the final selection of songs to be played and discussed at the ASCAP EXPO Song Feedback Panels. The screening panel will select songs that in their sole judgment may provide the most instructive, informative and productive discussions at the ASCAP EXPO sessions.
If your song(s) is selected during the screening process, you will be notified in advance of the ASCAP EXPO. Notification will be made by email. Do NOT call the ASCAP office asking if your song(s) has been selected for use in the ASCAP EXPO Song Review.
This is not a contest or competition judging the "best" songs. The panel is merely choosing songs for open review and discussion during the ASCAP EXPO. You are expected to be in attendance to discuss your song, if selected, and therefore will not be able to attend a competing session on another topic. If you are not in attendance, your song may not be reviewed.
