Bring It On

Story Behind The Song

After coping with the loss of three beloved family members and being a star witness for a friend who had been falsely accused of a crime - all within a years time - fate decided to throw another curve ball. A family member found themselves embroiled in a lawsuit against my previous place of employment brought about by the government. Once again the pressure was on me for I would be not only a witness for the government against those who were actually guilty, but a witness to attest to my family member's innocense. The night this family member got arrested I sat down and cried and wondered why so many bad things were happening. I had just begun to pray asking why I was being tested and for the strength to get through yet another traumatic experience when the inspiration for the song kicked in. I grabbed my guitar and called for Michael to join me and the basics of the song and the lyrics were completed in the next few minutes.

BRING IT ON

I thought I'd cried every tear there was to cry, that I'd felt every grief
Then this blow just hit me from behind, knocked me off my feet
And for a while I wasn't sure if I would ever get back up
Then somehow, I found my strength and I am standin' tough

So, bring it on, bring on your best
I know that this is just a test
Yeah, bring it on, I know that I can win
You can knock me down, but I am getting up again
Yeah, bring it on

I thought I'd faced every crisis in this life, oh, but I was wrong
But I've come to believe what doesn't kill us in the end only makes us strong
So although, I may look used up and tired, you can bet
That there's more fight left inside of me, cause I am not dead yet

So, bring it on, bring on your best
I know that this is just a test
Yeah, bring it on, I know that I can win
You can knock me down but I'll be getting up again
Yeah, bring it on

Yeah, yeah, yeah, of this one thing I am certain
Life holds no guarantees
But to be born and to die
It's up to us what goes on in between

So bring it on, bring on your best
I know that this is just a test
Yeah bring it on I know that I can win
You can knock me down, but I'll be getting up again
Yeah bring it on
I'll be getting up again
So why don't you bring it on
Bring it on
