Short Description of SongA patriotic song
Long Description of SongA song for our times about the loss of family members in war and the role of our faith.
Story Behind the SongKen Morrison writes: My father signed up for WWII with other boys from school. My Father-in-Law fought in the Pacific and was the only one to return from a suicide mission (Thank God he did). I have seen so many sent to fight and attended my share of military funerals. My heart goes out to all families with ties to the military.

VERSE
My Dad was just a boy when he signed up to go and fight
The war had hardly started, but he was one to do things right
He loved his home and country and he loved the
simple life where he lived
VERSE
He gave a hug to Grandpa and he kissed his Mama bye
He went off to be a soldier and he learned a battle cry
He took his stand with others and Deaths angel took his friend but passed him by
Oh, thank God he lived
PRECHORUS
He said a simple prayer and he gave of his life
Thats what he did
CHORUS
Well, I know that God in heaven understands this more than most
Hes seen his share of pain, lost a child like other folks
He knows the price of freedom and he paid it with his
loss to give us hope
So we may live
Now we walk with one who died for he gave of his life
Thats what he did
VERSE
Another time, another town, another boy with a soldiers face
This time a kid from down the street stood up to set the pace
His uniform was starched and pressed when we laid him in his final resting place near where we lived
PRECHORUS
And we said a simple prayer for he gave of his life
Thats what he did
CHORUS
Well, I know that God in heaven understands this more than most
Hes seen his share of pain, lost a child like other folks
He knows the price of freedom and he paid it with his
loss to give us hope
So we may live
Now we walk with one who died for he gave of his life
Thats what he did
VERSE
Well I was just a boy when my Dad went back to fight
And I tried to stand my tallest when we went to meet his flight
We brought his body home and I think about him every single night
And how he lived
And I said a simple prayer for he gave with his life
Thats what he did
Thats what he did
