Story Behind The Song
This song was inspired by the 1966 British drama film "Born Free". "Lions" describes a great, primal love that can never be sustained - similar to that between the Lioness Elsa and the British couple who rescued her from certain death.
Once Elsa came of age, they had to let her go. Likewise, one sometimes experiences a deep, passionate love with another that is doomed to end because of circumstances and/or incompatibility.

Lyrics
Lions
Every time I look at your face
I feel the blood rise like a tide
Under my skin babe
You're under my skin babe
You know this ain't right, but it's never felt wrong
This door was never meant to be opened
Under my skin babe
You're under my skin babe
Lord have mercy!
You know it's a crime, every time
Loving you
Every time that I touch your skin, I question The Lord;
I question his concept of sin babe...
His concept of sin babe
Every time that you washed your hands
I was crucified, died and then buried
But we come again
We come again!
Lord have mercy!
You know it's a crime, every time
Loving you
Our love is a Lion, wild and crazy
It can't be controlled or restrained
It will break us both, destroy the foundation
Of all that we hold dear
We are the Lions, forever baby
Our love will shine for all time
We are the Lions, forever baby
Born to roar
Doomed to die...
