Story Behind The Song
I grew up in a pink is for girls, blue is for boys world. It was a challenge throughout my life to be myself when so many children and adults would tease you for being different. I found a way to deal with all that before the days of the "It Gets Better" and anti-bullying campaigns came along. To date this is the most personal song that I've been writing for my album. As scary as it was, I feel like I've let go of all that pain. Children are innocent, let them be who they are and do your best to leave hate out of your teachings. Be who you are.
Song Description
"Boys Don't Do That" is an anthem for so many and not just for the LGBTQ community. This is a very human song about who we all are. We are black and we are white. We are gay and we are straight. We love and we hate. If a boy wants to wear a dress and play with Barbie dolls, let him. Don't fill your children with silly notions because those stick with us long after you've told us what we can and cannot do. Be who you are, no matter how lonely you feel. One day everything will make sense.
