Story Behind The Song
I originally wrote this song for guitar but submitted it to a songwriting critique group. It then went through several rewrites to emerge a stronger song. Later Jeffrey Casey put his touches on it, adding the catchy repeating phrases. In all the rewrites, the song stays true to the original message of surrender. In fact, surrender often requires change. It's fitting that the changes this song's gone through has made it even stronger.
Song Description
Taken in part from the story of the potter's wheel, "I Ask" is a song of surrender to Jesus requesting He reshape, refine, remake this broken vessel.

I Ask

A broken potter?s vessel laying on Your wheel;
A life in pieces that is ready now to yield;
Jesus, You alone can melt this heart of clay;
So come, Jesus come, and make me.
My life is shattered, Lord I?ve fallen from the shelf;
Once in use now I?ve been marred by prideful self;
But Master Potters can work miracles in clay;
So come, Jesus come.
In simple faith I ask, I ask, I ask for You to make me.
In childlike faith I ask, I ask, I ask for You to make me.
Make me, I ask for You to make me, Make me, I ask.
You?ve seen the tears flowing from my eyes.
You?ve touched my face after I have cried.
You?ve known the feelings of the heart and soul of me.
So come, Jesus come.
