Story Behind The Song
I wrote the song while attending college at Madison. My long-time girlfriend was spending the semester abroad in Italy, and I didn't know what to do with myself without her there. The song is a testament to my self-destruction nature when I'm alone, and a plea not to leave me to my own devices.
Song Description
A song featuring acoustic guitar and mandolin in a modern, upbeat context. The lyrics are aching and somewhat nostalgic, yet the melody is infectious. The song is about two lovers, one of which is at some distance from the speaker, either emotionally or physically. The refrain is simple: "Hold on to me". The speaker realizes how much he depends on his lover's presence, and is begging the lover to not to let him go.

Lyrics
when i thought about today
yeah i thought it'd never end
guess i'm too set in my ways
but my ways aren't working
and i know that i'm a mess
yes i know, but i digress
just
hold on, hold on to me
and i know they're killin me
but let me have my cigarettes
all my drunken ramblings
smoke helps get off my chest
