Story Behind The Song
My Grandpa David passed away while I was in NY and in production for our first album. Not only was he my childhood hero, but he was a huge storyteller and lyricist himself, so I had been excited and couldn't wait to share the album, but he died 3 mos before the album was completed. On top of that, I could not get back as an ice storm prevented me. Written in 2005 but unable to record it and actually sing it until 2011

Lyrics
A Song My Heart Knows
Joseph Devine and Julie Frey-Brunetto
January 2005
No, I can't see your face
But I can feel your voice
It's a song my heart knows
From when I was just a child
No hands so strong to hold
A child's fancy - stories told
Locked away where I can't go
Though you are finally free
CHORUS
Take wealth and diamond rings
Give me copper, shiny things
A little bracelet with my name
Tapped in by gentle hands
2ND CHORUS
A window there to watch the moon
A leafy tree a safe old room
But then the spring turned bitter cold
While I was away
Next time I see your face
Next time I hold you close
I'll sing the song my heart knows
From when I was just a child
No hands so strong to hold
A child's fancy - stories told
A song only my heart still knows
From when I was just a child
When I was just your child.
