Story Behind The Song
Earthworms was written while the band was in rehearsal. The bassist began playing the opening bass line and then as if rehearsed the rest of the band spontaneously created their own parts around it. Many of the lyrics sung in that first session ended up in the final track as well. And those lyrics were part of the inspiration for the entire story arc of the CD, "Memoirs".
Song Description
This is a song about taking the first steps towards completing a difficult journey. There are many things in the world that are leading to a potentially apocalyptic ending.... "Hell fire in the mother's breast", "Lightning in the distance", "Thunder in the middle sky".... You feel like an "Earthworm in the eagle's nest" meaning that the challenge facing you seems overwhelming and seemingly unbeatable - a tiny person in a vast world. And yet you summon the courage and "Put one foot in front of the other". This is a song about overcoming challenges by harnessing the power of inspiration and the human spirit.

Lyrics
Always under hill
Outside looking in
Hell fire in the mother's breast
Earthworms in the eagle's nest
One foot in front of the other
Tell me what it is we want from each other
Tell me what it is you have discovered
Lightning in the distance
Thunder in the middle skies
You are listening to me
Watching as the whole world dies
One foot in front of the other
Tell me what it is we want from each other
Tell me what it is you have discovered
One foot in front of the other
Tell me what it is we want from each other
Tell me what it is you have discovered
Earthworms in the eagle's nest
