Price Tag

Story Behind The Song

Just a typical breakup in my life.

Song Description

The first verse is about wishing that the person will take them back, but realizing that it doesn't work that way. Then it goes to the chorus, basically saying "I've wasted my time and I hope this breakup is worse for you than me." The second verse is reminiscing about the romance that they had in the beginning, and wishing they could re-kindle the flames, but realizing they can't. The bridge is a sudden statement of disgust at wasting his time on the relationship. The third verse is realizing that the ideals and images he had for the relationship were not realistic. Then he says that the "price tag" on love is high--in other words, it takes a big toll on a person. At the end of the song, he hopes that the price tag costs the other person more than it costs him.

Lyrics

Living happy, maybe dream a good hour a day
But I can't quite live while I'm waiting to hear you say
That you're taking me back for everything that I am
But I guess that it just doesn't work that way

For a long long time you were the only one that I could see
And I will only hope that this can hurt you more than me

I watched the fire grow cold but the embers gave me half of a chance
They said that things weren't dead and I could still heal back up the romance
But it'd be easier to feed this fire "green eggs and ham"
It's been way too long of a time since I saw a spark dance

For a long long time you were the only one that I could see
And I will only hope that this can hurt you more than me

I spent a lot of money
I spent a lot of time
Can you imagine my elation?
It wasn't worth a dime

For a long long time you were the only one that I could see
But you... you drifted away from me
And I'm beginning to see that the image I had was a sham
They say the price tag on love is one heck of a hefty fee

For a long long time I let myself be a casualty
And I will only hope that this price tag costs you more than me
