Story Behind The Song
My father died in 1986.
My son was born in 1991.
I've always regretted that my son never got to meet my father and of late have thought that I could've been a better Dad as my song grew up.
Song Description
Talking to late father about the grandson who was born several years after his death, asking if he's ever seen the child.
Also regretting elements of my own fatherhood and knowing that my Dad probably did a better job.

Lyrics
Did you ever see his face,
Did you ever see him smiling,
Did you ever see him play or hear him laugh the way he laughed, too small to understand you,
Did you ever see him run,
Or watch him take the steps, the first he took when he came to me,
Did you see the way he smiled,
Did you ever see his face.
Did you watch him while he played,
Did you help him understand things,
Did you laugh the way he laughed when he would fall down in the snow, did you know that he could hear you,
Do you feel the pride I feel,
Now I know the things you knew but know you always did it better,
But I hope I did some good,
Did you ever see his face.
Did you smile and laugh with me,
Or did you shake your head and wish that you could talk to me
Instead of watching helplessly while I just disappeared...
Did you ever see his face,
Did you ever see him smiling,
Did you ever see him play or hear him laugh the way he laughed, too small to understand you,
Did you ever see him run,
Or watch him take the steps, the first he took when he came to me,
Did you see the way he smiled,
Did you ever see his face.
