My Blues My Truth

Story Behind The Song

I can't make people like me. I can't make people love me. I've been alone before and survived. I will again. To protect myself, I must tune out, and worry only about myself. Selfish...yes. Critical for my survival...oh yes! "No one knows what it's like to be the bad man To be the sad man, behind blue eyes No one knows what it's like to be hated To be fated, to telling only lies..."

Song Description

Once you're named a mental reject, people want as far from you as possible. Then they'll claim you're not really ill, but then hide the women and children when you're around. Outcast, not fucked up, but fucked up enough that they are afraid for the children. Double standards have replaced the gold standard. This song came from something I said to my son. I won't talk about my problems. But being the cynic, I remember how Lennon added to McCartney's "Getting Better." "It's getting better all the time"...Lennon added, "Can't get no worse." So I added, "'Cause you don't care about my blues." Purely a songwriting move, not directed at anyone in particular. If you think it's about you, I'd suggest an ego check, don't flatter yourself thinking you made it into one of my tunes.

Lyrics

My Blues My Truth

I started hearing voices when I was seventeen
I asked if I was crazy, Doc said depends on what you mean
I ain't gonna lay my blues on you
'Cause you don't care about my blues
Now I'm feeling suicidal but I'm never
Gonna lay my blues on you

My family says "He's faking," calling me a tool
But ignorance is bliss 'cause they barely made it out of school
I ain't gonna lay my blues on you
'Cause you don't care about my blues
Now I'm getting suicidal but I'm never
Gonna lay my blues on you

I never leave the house now 'cause they're trying to steal my soul
And I hate their medication 'cause it's all 'bout mind control
I ain't gonna lay my blues on you
'Cause you don't care about my blues
I should be homicidal but I'm never
Gonna lay my blues on you

For years I self-medicated getting dope from a guy named Dale
He told my ex and boss about it
Like a grade school tattletale
I ain't gonna lay my blues on you
'Cause you don't care about my blues
Now I'm Lennon suicidal but I'm never
Gonna lay my blues on you
