Story Behind The Song
My father died suddenly at 48 from a massive heart attack while I was out on the road. I was 26 at the time and later as I went through his papers I found old pictures, letters from my mother while he was overseas, military commendations and many other things that made me realize I didn't really know the man the way I thought I did. Weeks later I was having the same feelings I assume most people have and regretting the fact that I did not say certain things to him before he died. My father appeared in two of my dreams and seemed to be saying everthing was okay. The entire experience was an emotional rollercoaster but in the end the song is about the close relationship we had and the positive impact he is still having on me.

Lyrics
Verse 1
Suddenly the phone rings, middle of the night
So I rub my eyes climb out of bed and fumble for the light
Then I, hesitate for a moment, I don't want to say hello
'Cause a phone call after midnight is never good news you know
Then I hear my brother say our fathers passed away
This can't be he was so strong
Sorry boy the old mans gone
Chorus
Right Before My Eyes Superman got old
He never said goodbye he just flew away forever
And even tho' I tried to understand when I was young
I never knew the man. tho' I was his son
Looking through the hour glass
Bridge
And every now and then he comes to me
I know it sounds strange but I swear he's in my dreams
And now, everything seems to be alright
He don't say much but he's always smiling
Yea he's always smiling
Chorus
Right Before My Eyes Superman got old
He never said goodbye he just flew away forever
And even tho' I tried to understand when I was young
I never knew the man. tho' I was his son
Looking through the hour glass
Right Before My Eyes
